I spoke to the very helpful Giles at Abbot Racing and (even though it was clear he would get no commercial benefit) he was happy to give me some advice on the phone. He explained that ANY Saab 9000 with the remote key fob would not be able to run with a replacement ECU unless it was married to the car using a tech 2 device. He said any Saab dealer would do it for approx £20.

I found a very helpful chap in Kingston who is Saab trained but runs his own business from his house who was kind enough to fit it in during my lunch hour - he played the Tech2 like a concert pianist and got rid of several annoying irritations, such as:

1) The previous owner had told me that he was digging around in the dashboard with the battery still connected and he shorted something accidently, and since then the SRS light had been permanently on - a few keystrokes on the Tech2 later - light went out and stayed out!

2) The stupid "beep beep beep" when you unlock the rear hatch - disabled!

3) He also altered the time limit on the immobiliser to reduce the chance of the car not starting when you turn it off briefly, ie at a level crossing.

Great guy and a real Saaber, highly recommended for anyone in the West London area of the UK. His website is http://www.saabtechnician.com/
