Trionic changed through the years Posted by turrbo [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: You cannot put a '93 ECU into a '95, David Cornwell, Sat, 21 Jul 2007 10:08:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It began as simply "Trionic" in '93, and then somewhere morphed into T5. In '96, OBD2 was mandated, so it changed again to accommodate two O2 sensors. So, in reality, '93, '94 and '95 are oddball ECU years. '96-'98 can be interchanged, allegedly.
I have experience with putting a TCS ECU into my non-TCS car. I was sold an Aero ECU with TCS by a former site sponsor and told it was a non-TCS one. So I install it. As soon as I start the car, it begins idling at about 500rmp, smoking and generally running like crap. As soon as I shifted into drive, it died. Restart, same thing. Somehow I figured out that it was an ECU for a TCS car (forget how I came to that conclusion, maybe the P/N is stamped on it or something). There was also something strange with the ACC when that ECU was plugged in, but I forget what it was exactly.
Long story short, the place wouldn't take it back and I wound up selling it and finally getting the correct one. A non-TCS one!!!
I *think* that CSE's didn't ALL have TCS in '95, although it may not have even been an option. Aero's did have it as an option, I believe '95 is the last year.
A good place to find ECU's is car-part.com. Let me know how you make out with the search!
