Thermostat changed (with mods), now what???

After perusing through past posts I finally nailed my overheating problem and changed the thermostat. Being a daily driver, I didn't have the patience of having one shipped so I got one from AdvanceAuto Parts, against the advice of a previous post. In there was an 82C that I replaced with a 90C. I drilled holes on the new thermostat identical in size and position to the old one. It seems to work fine so far and the fan is kicking in at about 9.30 to 10 o'clock.
The main concern now is that a 4 flash CEL is gone, good news, but now I have a constant CEL during driving but off when ignition is in ON position but motor not running. The car is an old faithful 92 9000S. All vacuum lines seem to be in place. By the way I took the throttle-body-away route to change the thermostat. Any ideas
