Many thanks Ari,
I live in the UK so I got the control unit over here (I can only imagine what to cost of shipping it from the US would have been!)- but I had bought the accumulator spring kit from Eriksson's a couple of months ago and yes, they are very helpful.
As it turned out, by the time I saw your post I had installed the unit with no problems - unfortunately it hasn't has much of an effect on my original niggle which was a late shift down from 2-1. It often seems to wait until the car is practically stationary before changing which causes a slight bump. Professional (I use the word advisedly!) diagnososes range from "I don't know why" to "that's normal" to "you need a new control unit" to "rebuild it again!" The other shifts are OK (and certainly improved with the new control unit), just not as good as the other 9000 we have in the family.
I'm now wondering if one of the governor seals could have a small fracture though I think considering the amount of time the problem has been apparent without any change that it's pretty unlikely. I'll get it sorted out eventually...
Cheers again.
