It's very difficult to conclusively test a DI on the bench without proper (proprietary) instruments.
Even if you see you have spark and a cleaning cycle, that doesn't necessarily tell you whether there's a problem that shows up intermittently or under high rpms, load, etc.
I can say that a lot of DI issues turn out to be plugs that are out of gap. Once they pass a certain threshold all kinds of expensive-seeming behavioral traits show up, so if you're having a problem of any kind the first thing to check is the plugs. Are they properly gapped and/or do they need to be replaced? Only when you've answered those two questions should you begin to wonder about the DI.
