Can't get small waterpump o ring to seal Posted by Chadwick [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hey everyone,
Just looking for some advice... I'm having issues with the small o ring on the throttle body heater pipe seating properly into the housing. First time I did it I thought everything was okay and took the car for a spin, only to have the o ring blow out about an hour later and the car start absolutely pouring coolant. When I removed the o ring and looked at it I had slightly pinched it.
That was on Saturday morning.... So I went to couple of hardware stores and got some various o rings to try Saturday night but all the ones I got just wouldn't seal, either they were too small or not fat enough to fit snugly on the pipe and contact the housing to make a seal.
I noticed that the small lip on the heater pipe doesn't come all the way in contact with the housing, there's about a 1mm gap. I tried to pry the pipe into the waterpump deeper but the tube wouldn't budge, even after removing the little torx that holds it on the timing cover.
So here I sit on Monday getting some .99 cent o rings overnighted to me for 22 dollars.
Any advice on getting it to seat and seal well? I tried petroleum jelly the first time and I guess that didn't work out.
TIA!
-Chad
