AC leak and hose repair question

My AC system is leaking right at the manifold coming out of the compressor. I can see little oil bubbles where the hose is attached to the hi-pres pipe. Car is a '96 9000 CS. I know that new hoses can be crimped onto the old connectors, but are these reliable? The dealer cost of the hoses and manifold is high $$.

Some shops offer the AC hose repair - has anyone here had good luck with these? I can imagine it working for power steering hoses but hi-pressure AC lines?
