Whether you go with NA or T will in some years decide whether your car
is simple or complicated - TCS and the turbo are 'married' some years.
NA (9000s..) will get you no turbo, no TCS, no ETS, less power too.

About years, in a bit of order:
'90 is a toss up and some had DI but I've not heard of TCS that year.

The '91 9KT is the first official year of the cars with DI, but NO TCS !
(I currently drive one which took me 2 years to find...all the good and
none of the bad stuff - a delightful car.)

'92 9KT cars had TCS/ETS and no switch and though they wer rockets they
were also plagued with expensive TCS issues - bear in mind the throttle
body ALONE is about $1000 to replace...base (9000/s) cars were OK.
(I was lucky I sold my '92 before it got -hungry- !)

'93 saw the continuation of TCS and the official debut of the Aero with
the (rightfully) dreaded TCS/ETS - beautiful, fast, comfortable cars and
some of them ate $$$ like potato chips - mine did and that's why it left.
This year still had serious TCS/ETS gremlins and no switch and it was a
fixed thing - not optional at all; also worthy of note - '92/'93 parts
can be absolutely specific to that model/year - in my case both of my
cars in those years had parts which fit nothing else and BIG costs.

'94 saw the arrival of TCS/ETS as being optional, and besides the '91,
the '94 ~without~ TCS/ETS can be nearly as perfect a car as can exist.
The only reason I am not driving one right now is the cost to replace
the one I lost to 2 moose - but I am still here to find another because
I was in a Saab !!!
By '94 they had also supposedly gotten the TCS 'right', but I cannot
claim personal experience of this because I was too scared of it by
then to risk another TCS car - it leaves a powerful memory when you
get onto the interstate in front of an 18 wheeler and you are in the
process of accelerating and moving ahead and your car goes into LHM
and that semi gets bigger and bigger and bigger before you can move
into the breakdown lane and get the bloody TCS reset for another 100%
unknown length of time - mine always seemed worst when I needed to
accelerate the most - very scary stuff.

'95 and newer I have no personal experience of at all, but as others
have said, they seemed to have fixed most everything before getting
snarfed up by the GM beast.

I will also mention that I did own and enjoy several pre-'90 9KT's
and they were delightful cars for all the fact that they were VT
cars and sadly rusted usually.

Hopefully that all adds to your ability to pick a happy car for
yourself - I know I'll be driving a 9KT as long as it is humanly
possible to do so - getting that first one broke me of the C900 and
as things go it has been a very one-way trip in my car history into
the best cars I have ever known.

Biased ? H*ll yes ! Why not drive a real Swede while they are around ?

Best Wishes,

mark
