Anemic sounding speakers post-install is a classic symptom of one of them being out of phase (wired backwards). Just something to check....
I have not installed new rear speakers yet, but the voice coil failed on one of the front 4" speakers, so I replaced the entire set with new 4" component (tweeters separate from woofers) speakers. I used Rainbow SLC 210 speakers, a German brand relatively unknown here in the US. They're phenomenal. I actually have the fader on my stock stereo turned all the way forward so that I don't listen to the stock rears much anymore.
My eventual plans are to replace the stock head unit with an Alpine, running a separate amplifier, new rear speakers (Rainbow SL 6x9s) and maybe a small sub like a Basslink.
