Hi all. Back again. So THIS time the serpentine shredded. I was able to drive it home, half the time almost hoping the engine melted.
Made the tool. Made hole to 4 and 1/2 inches since mines a 97. Use breaker bar. Can't get it to go far enough. SInce I am getting lots of torque on it I stop and consider. It looks like the piston is compressed completey and it looks about 5 inches. I take the tool out and drill another hole. Re-compress and Bob's yer uncle. I scratch my head and go hmm.
Is it possible that the piston has been replaced by another for a different model?
Today I get the pulleys. Remove idler and replace no problem. Slip belt on, insert into bracket try to insert pulley and there's not enough travel to line the pulley up with the bracket. "Sure" says me unhappily, thinking that since I had to use the 5 and 1/8 size tool, perhaps I need the belt that goes along with that size? Anyone else ever have this issue?
And if you know how to check the VIN on the engine let me know.
Thanks for any insight. And I will get back on to let you know what happens. This car has been a lesson in patience and also serves as incentive to make more money and buy NEW :-)
