Hello all...its been a while since I've been on this bb. I have a 87 9000 turbo with LH 2.2 - its not passing smog. Its failed twice. After the first failure, I found the pre-heater circuit for the o2 sensor was not present. (oops!) It was a loose fuse holder. After fixing that I went ahead adjusted the AMM till the readings on the o2 sensor single wire was fluctuating between 0.2 & 0.8 VDC. For fun I checked the AMM ohm resistance and was at 260ohms. I brought it back and the readings were much better but still failing. Here are the readings....
HC - Measured (155)
- Max (114)
CO - Measured (0.42)
- Max (0.73)
Nox Measured (1882)
- Max (785)
So obviously I'm way over on Nox. The cat is new(er) maybe a year or two old max. Timing is at 16BTDC. I'm running out of ideas. I'm not sure why the o2 sensor will swing but will still fail. I know that when the o2 sensor was out, it was running rich. Perhaps the sensor is bad but if it was bad, would it still fluctuate when the AMM is dialed in for that mark? Any and all ideas are much appreciated. I really dont want to throw more money at this car in terms of a new cat, etc. It passed 2 years ago and has run like champ since. Let me know what you think,
Thanks,
andy
