I replaced the engine in my 91 9k cd a couple of weeks ago. Of course mine is earlier than yours, but perhaps I may just share something useful for you or someone else. I didn't pull the tranny. I removed ac compressor and bracket (left ac hoses intact, charged), h2o pump, alternator, ps pump, starter, downpipe and upper motor mount and brackets...

I placed bolts and nuts and so forth in ziploc bags and labeled them accordingly.

I found that a 90 bend wrench worked best for downpipe studs for me.

Removing the upper engine/tranny studs eases engine swap.

Used a block of wood (2x4)under rear lower motor mount bracket to hold it upright when installing engine.

Made a simple bracket to hold belt tensioner shock compressed. They have a tendency to seperate. a steel rod w/ bends to desired length to fit grooves on tensioner assembly.

I replaced timing chain in donor engine, removed balance shaft chain, blocked oil hole behind balance chain tensioner, replaced virtually every seal and oring.

Clean the oil pickup screen.

Used rtv silicone where ever oil may try to escape... a thin film. I didn't use any for the valve cover. I used plenty on the two h20 pump o-rings.

I used alot of rags, brake cleaner, elbow grease, thanked my breaker bar numerous times...

Use thread sealant on flywheel bolts.

I used thread lock(blue?) on torque converter bolts and reverse thread bolt on or near belt tensioner.

Torx screws were stubborn for me... they ate up all my cheapy torx sockets. Bought a good quality set from Sears, wished I'd done that in the first place.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something ;)

good luck
