I sure hope that I fine-tune my procedure for changing out a water pump as I keep doing them, because I did my first one yesterday and I found it to be kind of a pain. Its fairly straight forward, but I fiddled and farted with the bottom bolt that holds the water pump to the block for probably 10 mins before I came up with the right combination of universals, sockets and extensions to get the thing out.

It seemed that several bolts were relatively tough to get at, and I found my hand crammed into the small gap between the top of the turbo and bottom of the exhaust manifold, with a sawed-off 12mm wrench for quite a while.

I pulled the water pump, then the adapter that attaches to the drain on the front of the block, cleaned each up with a scotch-brite wheel and reinstalled separately. Has anybody had luck with hooking the two together first, then installing as one unit?
