I have a 93 9000 aero that has given me a few problems over the past couple days. I was driving on the freeway and a check engine light started flashing and the engine felt like it was misfiring. I pulled off to the side of the road and the car seemed to be idling fine but if I reved it up past 2500 then it would misfire and pop a lot. I let it cool for about five minutes while I checked whatever I could under the hood. I started it up again and it seemed fine for the rest of my trip, about 10 minutes.
On my way home after about 5 minutes of driving it did the same thing only worse. WHen I stopped the car was idling kind of erratic moving up and down from about 700 to 1400. I again shut the car off for a little bit , started it and resumed my trip for about a mile before the problem reoccurred. I did this for a few sessions and then had a roommate bring me tools. I unplugged the battery and let it sit a few minuted and then reconnected it. This seemed to help a little as I got about 3 miles before it did it again. If I kept driving above 3500 or 4000 it seemed to misfire less.
My car did this once before on the fourth of july but has not done it since, and I have to drive 350 home from college for thanksgiving tomorrow and I don't really trust it to make it.
From what I can think of it is possibly a coil in the DI cassette that is going bad at higher temperatures so when it cools for 5 minutes it is fine until it heats up a mile down the road. Does anybody have any other ideas or perhaps a similar situation that happened to them?
