1998 9000 CSE, 88,000.
For the sake of reliability, and avoiding the expense of a breakdown in a remote place that might require a rental car and a shop repair, does it make sense to replace the Saab radiator after a certain interval at home when it is convenient to do the work?
My 1993 Saab 9000 broke down because of a failed tensioner spring on a Friday afternoon 300 miles from home in a rural part of Georgia and it was very expensive and time consuming to have to get to a rental car place, rent a car, drive home, and then drive back to the repair shop. I'd replace a few parts known to fail after ten years and 100,000 miles to avoid that mess, especially since I am committed to keeping my 1998 9000 for the next ten years, at least.
What is the lifetime of a Saab radiator where the coolant has always been replaced at the specified intervals?
Has anyone replaced their radiator as preventive maintenance?
I'm asking these questions because I may drive my car out West this summer on a 4-week trip in the mountains and I don't mind replacing some things that may fail in the future anyway.
