Sorry not been on the board for a while. My beautiful 1997 2,3FPT Anniversary made expensive engine noises and left me on the side of the road in November and I have been stuck driving Mrs Andy's beaten up Previa since then. I suspect big ends. She is parked at my office now next to my previous car, a '96 2.3 FPT which blew a head gasket.
Last night I picked up my firt Aero, a 1997 manual with 119K miles, Silver with Rocky black interior, FSH and a folder full of receipts.
Bodywork is mint except for 2 tiny chips!Interior is superb!
Mechanically, feels great, with just a few niggles to keep me amused:
Central locking keeps blowing fuse due to sticky rear passenger locks on both sides (I have two spares cars so no biggy, I'll just lube the locks once I've got the door card off the rears)
Boost gauge does not move. (I suspect hose popped off somewhere)
Temp gauge barely moves from Cold (New temp sensor needed I'd say)
Rear wash/wiper does not work (I think that is linked to central locking fuse?)
Headlamp wipers disconnected, so I assume dead (I have a spare set in the shed from my old '95CSE anyway)
...so all stuff I've fixed in previous cars and I have parts for everything except...
The clutch feels odd. If I'm pulling away from the lights my foot has to lift just an inch or so from the floor and I'm away (or stalled, I haven't driven a stick in 15 years!).
The pedal feels very loose at the top of it's travel and flaps around for an inch or so before feeling pressure. Also the clutch is quite heavy to push, not sure if that is normal?
I've searched through the archives and found references to bleeding but the advice seems to be "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" so am I stuck with a clutch that seems to bite really early and not have a lot of feel, ie between just starting to bite and fully engaged it feels like only an inch of travel between the two. Normal?
Aside from that, I'm in heaven! I had to drive it back 5 hours last night and I just let her cruise along while I enjoyed those amazing seats!
Any advice welcome
sorry for such a long post
