"Being unacustomed to stick shifts as I am", I was so worried last night with all the learned and kind advice I received based on my description. I popped the hood to check everything over and noticed that the throttle cable was slacker than a very slack thing. Eleventy million turns of the adjuster and it is much more driveable now and I suspect the clutch is fine now.
What was happening was that everytime I went to pull away, it would almost stall and then I'd increase the revs a bit and off she'd go, which made start stop traffic a real bore.
So now that the throttle cable has given me the response it should do, I have killed two birds with one stone, ie:
1) Clutch feels fine now
2) I'm not as pants at driving a stick as I thought!
Sorry for the bum steer
