Hi Brita,
I was just monkeying around inside the DS door of my '92 9000, so I figured I could relate this little bit of info while it's still (painfully) fresh in my mind.
There's a little part, sort of like a bent coat hanger about 3 inches long which has a plastic cap on either end. the caps are molded into the shape of semi-sperical sockets, and one end fits on a ball attached to the back of the lock cylinder (the part where you insert the key from the outside of the car), the other end fits on a ball attached to a lever arm on the latch mechanism.
From what I've seen, it's extremely easy to fail to get these attachments properly "snapped" into place. It is an easy thing to fix; the only catch is, you'll have to remove the interior door panel to do it. For a competent mechanic, it shouldn't be more than 1/2 an hour billable (I'd think) - those that are actual mechanics, you're welcome to dispute me.
