Saab OEM, or 'other' ? Re: what kind of receiver is it? Posted by vtsnaab [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: what kind of receiver is it?, Mr. Bubble, Tue, 11 Mar 2008 12:55:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That is the 1st and most important question !
If it is a Saab OEM hitch, it takes a round, special drawbar and a tool
to open and set it into the receiver.
If it is square, then it is some kind of aftermarket thing and probably
uses a drawbar easily found at Kmart, with a pin to hold it in.
BTW - I have a '91 9KT with the Saab OEM hitch (a real work of artful
engineering if ever I saw one...) and I use it to pull a snowmobile
trailer as a utility rig instead of hauling stuff with my thirsty
3/4 ton pickup.
The ONLY time the car even acknowledges the presence of the trailer
behind it is when there's a big pothole or a strong cross-wind.
Otherwise it pulls and stops effortlessly.
This subject has been hashed over endlessly on the board and the
bottom line is that if some fool pulled an oversize load for long
distances with a 9KT, then beware, but otherwise the car is rated to
pull a load and does so with ease and grace, in safety.
The really HARD thing by comparison is wiring for trailer lights !
If you need info on that post back or email me and I'll pitch in.
Best Wishes,
mark
