Came out to my car this morning to find that the serpentine belt was off, idler pulley disintegrated and missing. My wife said "Oh, I forgot to tell you that something is wrong with the steering on your car"; hopefully she didn't drive it too far with no belt. This is a surprise as the pulleys and belt were replaced about 45,000 miles ago. Anyway, I'm now at work and ordering parts to do the repairs after having about 30 seconds to look at it while I was home.
Since the tensioner shock has extended as far as the bracket will allow, is it now dead, or can it be compressed and reused? I really didn't get to check it out enough to know, want to order parts today.
