I went through the stiff clutch/low pedal thing on my 89s for 60k miles (rust did it in at 256k). I had all kinds of black crud bleed out and all kinds of stress provoking symptoms, typically on I95 far from home. It kept on going though, the clutch never slipped, but by the extension visible on the slave piston there was very little left on the disc.
I have an 88 9kt with 182k.I like it a lot. The clutch went out and I completely went through the it and transmission at 150k. It was a lot of work and it's still too early to say whether it was worth it.
You might want to try reverse bleeding the slave from the bleeder screw with pressure or vacuum upstream to get out the crud and replacing the hose. There might be something funny going on with the bleeder screw not seating quite right. Maybe that's where your fluid leaked. $5.98 isn't much in the big scheme of things, but it's a damn shame to see brand new brake fluid go on the floor.
Your car sounds like it has its share of other problems and might be all worn out. That said, I wish I had the 61 96 2stroke my dad picked up new when I was 13. I rolled it over when I was 16. He straightened out the dents. Lots of sentimental value...
