At a minimum, disconnect one battery terminal Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: No need to do anything for three months. nm, jjacob, Thu, 10 Apr 2008 09:27:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Your car has an alarm and other electronics that are running in standby mode, so the battery is constantly being drained, although slowly. Running a normal car battery all the way down will cause permanent damage, so disconnect it - the negative terminal is typically easier to pull off.
Gas stabilizer is not that expensive and might be a good idea - your "three months" may turn into more (stuff happens). Once gas gets old, it will cause issues and it's difficult to get rid of the 18 gallons of old gas that will be in the tank. I have found that one winter's gas for my snowblower will not absolutly not start it next winter - similar effect on a car.
I used to park my Alfa Spider for six months every winter, my snowbird parents park alternating cars for six months at a time - no ill effects from basic precautions - we do try to change the oil beforehand, but I think that my father occasionally misses a turn, it still comes out OK.
