TZ, thanks for listening to us; what you're doing makes good sense as a first attempt at A/C work.
In case you have not removed the hoses yet, there is something to be aware of: the connectors tend to "weld" themselves pretty strongly to the aluminum parts of the system such as the threads of the condensor fittings. Some here have suggested cutting a slot in the external part of the hose connector to make removing the connector easier and avoid destroying the condensor. I believe that the townsendimports site has a procedure on this in the A/C service folder.
