Extreme frustration ...

I had recently had my '95 9k die in the middle of no where, and after getting it back to my house and ready to work on I narrowed the issue down to the fuel pump. Lucky for me I have a wrecked '96 9k in the back yard, and the fuel pump is almost new. Should be simple enough right?
I have tried every method suggested on getting that stupid ring off, and it will NOT budge. I have put more torque on that thing than you can imagine and it just snaps one of the plastic tabs off every now and then. So i figured, I'll just cut it off. I have been trying to do that for an hour now and it is getting more and more difficult the closer I get, and now I'm getting afraid of breaking important stuff on the pump.
In short, I have a few questions. Is that wring threaded normally? (i.e. righty tighty lefty loosy). If so, has anyone else ran into one that will not budge and how did you remove it? I need to make sure I get the one off of the good 9k in good condition, any suggestions? You're always helpful.
Thanks
