You are comparing the CD, which is the 'older' pre-CS body with a trunk, with the newer CS.

The CD was longer than the 9000 of the era, which puts it still a little longer than your newer CS. But the Griffen was primarily an option package, biased heavily towards luxury. It had every possible option, so it weighs A LOT. No engine mod, but the early 2.3 turbos were pretty darn fast. Yes, the turbo may be smaller, but it spools up quicker than the larger turbos. And the Saab engine was never limited by the turbo size - the turbos all can provide much more boost than the engine needs.

For speed, I'll bet it's the low end ooomph you feel. Lower gearing for the turbo. A faster spool-up for the smaller turbo. And the chance to get more rpm at lower speed and therefore more boost. I'll bet a later CSE will beat the Griffen to 60 mph easily. However folks feel torque more than horsepower, and it's that climb to 35 mph you notice the most.

The CDs had the self-leveling suspension. Assuming the owner has kept up the stock shocks, it'll ride smooooth. Not particulary great for tossing about. If they went to replace the Nivomats and turned white at the price, they may have retrofitted 'standard' shocks and springs. So it may or may not have a stock suspension.

As to handling, the Griffen was biased heavily towards luxury. I'll bet you're feeling the extra weight and smoother ride, and taking that as sticking like glue. Until you throw the car into a curve and see if you can break the rear end loose or get the front end to plow, you really aren't pushing the suspension of either car. But the heavier, smoother-riding CD will feel more settled.

Your Aero suspension will actually handle better, but the price will be additional vibration and harshness, and probably a little more twitchy. That's the tradeoff for better handling. But it may feel nervous or less settled than the softer Griffen suspension.

If I were racing the cars, or autocrossing, I'd take the modded CS over the Griffen. If I'm cruising on the highway, or taking a back-road trip but not doing much more than 3/10ths driving, I'd take the Griffen.

Not better. Different. Or better, depending on what you want.
