Actually all 9000s were not the same. In the beginning, ha ha ha, they used the 2.0 engine from the 900, with a few changes to fit the layout of course. (in the US in 1987 if you wanted a four door turbo it was a 9000, we wanted another 900!) the HP and torque were similar to the 900. Later (1990 IIRC) the 2.3 came out, pre T5, used the DI/APC management and had the red DI. in 1994 the block went to the "short" block, T5, and the transmission mating was different and the stick used different ratios, gave lower rpm at speed, but was a bit slower to some speeds, higher top speed. The 1990-1992 9000T hatch (old body style btw) 5 speed had lower ratios and was faster to speed than the later 9000CS or CSE with the same HP ratings, could have the Aero wheels (*not* the Super Aeros of the 1994-1997 models which are silver) that were two colored, grayish centers with silver lip - it was often referred to as an Aero due to the wheels (which are SPG like and *that* car was called an "Aero" in non-US markets), had excellent performance. The "Real" Aero has higher values but is somewhat disadvantaged by the 5 speed ratios. All that is stock of course. And then there is the 9000CD available as a non-turbo and a Turbo too,all 2.3 engined, but always an automatic, only trunk 9000, slightly longer than the others *and* the 900 too. proved that one to Mike Lynch one day, took some information over to him when he was still with Continental Saab. the Turbo versions used the Nivomat self leveling shocks and much softer springs, the non-turbo used normal shocks and springs. Of course all of the is U.S. model that I'm talking about. checkout my members photos and you will see I'm *not* quoting stats from a manual (although I could lol - it's in there too!) but I have owned multiples of all of them except the pre 1993 9000T 5 speed and still own one of all the ones I'm talking about today. (Put one of my brothers in another 1992 9000CDT auto, another brother in a 93 9004dr 5sp na AND a 1991 900T3dr 5sp). Had to replace nivomats on one CDT, found springs on a non-turbo CD and put those and bilsteins on my second CD, Gutted a third 92 9000CDT auto for parts and sold the remains to metal place for $130, have a couple of Aeros (one with TCS, one without, both 5 speeds), done the head gaskets, clutches, brakes, upgrades, and about to either rebuild or replace a 5 speed in my 94 Aero... and then there is the fleet of 900s engine swaps, transmission swaps, auto to 5 speed.... but I digress!
