insurance company is being difficult. the valuation on the 93 9000 CSE they determined was $2025. 80% of which is approx. $1600, which is more than enough to have the Saab dealer install a new gas tank ($1170).

however, the rear bumper assembly is damaged (beneath the cover). Cost for a used one from Goldwing is $245 shipped.

additionally, a used tank from Goldwing is $220 shipped.

2 hours labor to change the gas tank
2 hours labor to R&R the rear bumper assembly

worst case scenario 2.2 hours to repaint the rear bumper cover if Goldwing doesn't have the same color

total estimate should be less than $1000, but for some reason the collision center and the adjuster hired by the insurance company want to total the vehicle.

in florida, if a vehicle's cost of repair is greater than 80% of value, the car gets a salvage title and cannot be repaired and registered in florida.

instead, there are companies that make weekly runs to florida from kentucky, where they buy nice damaged vehicles, ship them back to kentucky, repair them, have them inspected/rebuilt title, and then sell them for profit.

i figure that's what's going on here. the car looked fine, just the plastic between the metal rear bumper and the bumper cover is damaged, and then tank was cracked.

i could fix it myself for less than $500.

i've never had an issue with an insurance company like this, they always just inspect the vehicle, write me a check, and i pocket the money and fix the car, this is so strange.
