You know, I'm 99% certain there is no socket on the back of the single CD player, but I'll definitely check again (and look like an idiot if there is). To my recollection, there is only the one input on the back of the head unit, and the single CD player is plugged into that one. That led me to my first assumption that maybe if one decided to get the CD changer as an option, than the single CD player was not included inside the car. But that assumption was later proved wrong, because if you push the "Source" button on the head unit when there is no CD changer installed, it reads, "no pack," which is referring to the pack in the CD changer. This means the head unit is not only capable, but looking for a source or signal to tell it the CD changer is there. So this has to mean both the CD player, AND the CD changer both can go into that head unit with the use of a Y-cable. And, like I said, I was loaned the use of a "Saab" Y-cable, from an authorized, experienced Saab repairman, and it functioned properly in terms of switching between the single CD player AND the CD changer by pushing the source button, but simply the volume coming from the changer was too low for practical use. And I know that Y-cable was meant specifically for that job, because each end was clearly labeled for either the head unit, the single CD player, and the CD changer.
But I'll definitely check the back of the single CD player again. It seems very odd it could vary that much in just a year. But it would make sense and be a hell of a lot easier if I ended up just being dumb enough to forget to check the back of the single CD player. But then what's the story on the older Y-cable I tried?
...go figure.
