From what you write, there's nothing wrong with the compressor, the only problem is the hose. I replaced mine as follows with no special tools other than a cheapo AC guage hose for adding refrigerant.
With the motor stone cold, and NOT RUNNING de-pressurize the system by releasing gas at the high side shraeder valve fitting until no more comes out.
Remove the hose. Be very careful at the condenser connection as it will corrode and the condensor fitting breaks off very easy, which will require a new condensor. I had to very carefully use a cutting wheel on a dremel tool to remove mine. As you remove each hose fitting quickly cap off the condenser or the compressor as the case may be. The isea is not to leave the system open so air and moisture get in.
The new hose has plugs at each end, take them both off and squirt refrig into one side and cap off the hose again. Quickly remove the caps at one hose end and the end it fits into (either condensor or compressor) and quickly connect the hose, dothe same for the other side.
Now just recharge and you are done.
Or just replace the hose and pay $150+ to have the system recharged at Midas.
