The thing to check for is that octane values were run when the horsepower figures for the car were compiled. The Turbo boosted APC driven cars are usually very capable of adjusting boot/timing and all that jazz to run well with the usualy range of pump gasolines available. However, if the housepower ratings runs were done with 91 octane and you run with lower than that, you *could* get better performance. I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the cobwebs I remember seeing in print that the ratings on teh turbocharged cars were down with the highest generally available octane. From a marketing standpoint, brand standpoint, and keeping the advantage of having a turbocharger be used, there would be little use in *not* showing the entire range of power available with the various octanes as this is one of the highpoints of the power plant. Showing how the turbocharge can run low and get great mileage from a four banger, and yet crush the pedal and scoot!

Looking through my 50 or so owners manuals and can't find the print proof, if anyone has done a dyno of regular vs premium it would be fun to see!

I know that my 1985 would scoot with the highest octane, but ran ok with the cheap stuff.

The real current computation is dollars per mile. Meaning how many miles you get for the cost of the gasoline, maybe regular gets pretty good mileage and yet saves a bundle on cost. The fact that you can dial the performance up or down simiply by which octane you use, especially with todays costs, is huge!
