I upgraded my 1996 9000CS this past weekend by installing an APC solenoid and an ECU from a 1997 9000CSE. I still need to install a boost/vacuum gauge but first need to decide whether I am going to hack out the analog clock or relocate the vestigial headlight switch. Anyway, here are my early observations:
- My car is a manual and the donor vehicle for the ECU was an automatic but that did not cause any problems (so far, anyway).
- Rather than crafting a bracket as is suggested by others on this board, I zip tied the APC solenoid to the side of the radiator. The conventional location, on top of the radiator, seems to be too hot--couldn't the extra heat damage the thing?
- The car seems noticeably faster, especially when changing lanes on the freeway.
- Overall mpgs are up a bit (too early to say for sure).
- Slow cars seem to be "getting in my way" now. I guess I need to slow down.
- Total cost for parts (including 10' of 6mm vacuum hose) was about $100. The APC solenoid was purchased on the auction site and the ecu was located using car-part.com (salvage yard).
