Sounds like something from an SM catalogue! But maybe owning a 9000 is all the pain you need just now.
Does this link help? The U-nuts or lug-nuts might do the trick as they would push on from the side of the panel and there would be some slideability in positioning them to match up with the existing holes.
Alternatively, maybe you would Araldite one of their plastic fittings into place.
I know lug nuts mean wheel nuts in US-speak but with any luck you and I know what we're talking about.
