Door lock buttons not attached. What the hay??

I just joined the 9000 world, via a '96 CS auto I picked up for $500 for my mother. Around 180,000.
Lots of little aches and pains, worst right now is probably that the rear door lock buttons seem to pull way up and aren't attached to the lockworks.
(These cars date back into the 80s, couldn't they have fixed a problem like this before 1996?)
What do I have to do to fix these babies?
One door seems not to want to open at all. Can I pull the panel enough from inside to get it unlatched?
Next gripe, the marker lights-courtesy lights set in the edges of the inner door panels: one missing, the other three cracked. A plainly bogus design, couldn't they have changed it by Year 2 or 3?
I'll be running various searches on here but wanted to put the question out.
Is there a Bentley for the 9000s? I'll be buying one if so.
