I popped it all open again, and bent the spring brass contact at driver's window switch away just a little, and on reassembly the overactive auto-down had gone away. Now no auto down on that side at all.
I also bent the passenger side spring-brass contact in just a little, hoping that side's auto-down feature would start working. But no luck.
I think if I get time I might pull it all apart again and keep trying for a happy balance on that contact, so the no-hands opens-all-the-way feature would work as designed.
But I realize: I don't commute by toll roads and drive them rarely. So I rarely feel the need to have the window finish opening itself while I concentrate on steering and braking.
And if I did start toll road commuting, nowadays I'd get Speedpass or whatever and never need to open the window in a hurry to pass coins, the only real reason for the feature to begin with.
