This has happened on 2 of my 9Ks and I would first check the ground as Ari says.

The pictogram measures resistance from each bulb and compares the two sides. A difference in resistance tells the pictogram that you have a bulb out. Sometimes it can be a result of using 2 different watt bulbs in the back. Sometimes it can be a bad ground. Mine seemed to happen on both vehicles when I spliced a trailer connector into the rear lights. I overcame it on the previous vehicle by using 2 different wattage bulbs and "tricking" the pictogram. It took a while to figure out and one light was always brighter in the back....But I don't stare at the back lights on my car, but I do have to stare at that pictogram.
