When does it happen? Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 12 Sep 2008 17:22:29 In Reply to: Brake Lights Warning, ChrisJ, Fri, 12 Sep 2008 07:16:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When you first start the car, you get the pictogram, which should go out when you hit the brake pedal. That check the switch at the pedal.
Is the pictogram coming on when you hit the brakes, and then go out? Or stay on all the time?
Does it act differently with the headlights on or off?
If it seems related to the headlights, or even if it doesn't, the first place to suspect is a bad tail light ground. Pull back the carpeting, and find the fat black wire from each tail light cluster to a ground lug. Unbolt the ground lug, polish up the mating surfaces, and tighten it back down. It *might* be the filament monitor, which is located in the right rear of the trunk. But I'll bet it's a bad ground.
