a new Pilkington windshield put in. I called the local Saab store and they recommended a glass place. Called there and they said they'd use a Pilkington, which seems to be an OK brand from what I can find out.

The guy doing the install said they have had some bad luck with some brands from China and they use mostly Pilkington, St. Gobain (a Saab OEM) and some other one. My daughter's '95 CS has a PPG one that's a few years old and seems OK, too. I think the quality issues they have are imperfections and hardness.

The installer put in a new gasket that he applied and cut to fit. It was just one of 2-3 styles he had on spools in the truck. He said there are only a few types, something the car mfgrs and glass companies apparently agreed on.

Mine old one just really pitted (the original from '96), no cracks, so I just paid for it, but it was only $180. Pretty painless. Amazing difference with new glass, especially at night.
