Did your car sit for a while and develop surface rust on the rotors? I just replaced all my rotors (97 9000 CS) due to a 5 week down time when the fuel pump went south. It was early spring and I couldn't get to it and the otherwise usable rotors rusted over pretty bad due to very damp weather. I think subsequent use imbedded the rust in the pads and ruined both pads and rotors. Maybe 2/3rds of the pad was contacting the rotor and pads wearing prematurely/unevenly over rusted high spots. Rotors were over 80,000 miles old so they were probably due for the recycle bin anyway.
Nothing like new pads and rotors. I have an extra caliper if you need one.
