Fuel line failure near engine....chronic 9K problem or

All,
While cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway last weekend in my 91 Turbo, I began to detect a strong odor of gasoline....especially with the sunroof open OR the cabin vent system running.
Upon inspection one of the plastic fuel lines, either manifold supply or the regulated return line, have some sort of crack in them, spraying fuel toward the alternator area, and fortunately for me, not straight down onto the exhaust header running directly under.
Having dodged that bullet, is this a chronic failure point for this car? Are replacement parts still available? I've done a few "fuel injection hose around plastic" repairs for C900 check valves at the fuel pump. Was there a recall from SAAB for this? I know it is way too late for anything from that... but this failure certainly could have burned my car to the frame. The C900 is not engineered this way, as all fuel systems are on the intake side of the engine, nothing located near the exhaust side.
For all information provided, thanks in advance!
