'91 and Quasimotors.com... Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Sat, 25 Oct 2008 01:19:24 In Reply to: Quasimotors.com, Bill Homer [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 23 Oct 2008 05:27:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Frank, I just parked my '91 9KT and have a great 3 years to be grateful
to it for.
The ONLY reason it ceased to be my daily driver was that I bought the
'94 Aero from John of Quasimotors.com !!!
That '91 took me 2+ years to find and it came with some records, but
also came from a guy I did NOT trust and needing a few things already
and for about $300 more than I wanted to spend - but I bought it
anyhow.
Why ?
It's a great model year. It has the 2.3 w/ DI. It's WAY spunky. I like
the 9000 level of comfort. I had a 900T and a 9000T at the same time
once and liked driving the 9000T better - and the '91 is even better
than that ! (And a real '91 will NEVER have TCS.)
The car took about $1000/year in work/parts to keep at the level of
safety and drivability that I demand - and it was worth that and more.
So - all told I am into that car for over $5k and it seriously doesn't
owe me a thing !!!
I'm going to put it in the classifieds here soon and if someone comes
along offering me some $ and some barter for it it'll go, as long as
they intend to keep it on the road and enjoy it.
As for model years - 87 -> 90 are just OK; 91 can be great; 92/93 are
what I'd call h*ll years; and 94 and up are best without that nasty
TCS.
As for records, I'd say use your sensibilities and your senses; if a
car is noisy, feels loose and has the look of a turbo that some kid
used for a beater - just pass it up.
If the engine/trans and fluids are clean, brakes/steering/exhaust are
tight - take it on the interstate - look for smokies - and do some
fast/hard UPHILL passing (9KTs do this especially well...)- make it
go good and fast, now:
Any noises ? Does it feel OK ? Shifter make any funny moves by itself ?
Did it gripe about the (preferably big) hill you used ? Did it take
right off and keep pulling nicely until you let up ?
Just be smart and sensible.
I've bought 7 of these cars since I started and the worst of it was
actually one that was so dirty inside that I couldn't get the smell
out (I bought it with a stuffy nose !); other than that I'd say the
9KT is about the best car I've ever known in driving more than 30
years and I only hope I can always find one when I need another !!!
Best Wishes.

PS: My first Saabs were all 99's, and I've had C900's too; of the
lot the 9KT is the only car that cures me of the desire to have
a fast motorcycle at the same time...
