With the valve out of the crank, two things will happen-
The engine may run leaner and/or have a poor idle. The crankcase operates at a slight vacuum - not a lot of air is pulled through the PCV. With it disconnected, you've got a pretty good vacuum leak running straight into the intake.
Also, the oily fumes will come out of the crankcase. Yes, smell in the cabin, but most of those fumes stay in the engine compartment. It can make a bit of a mess over time.
Is either one terrible? No. But that vacuum leak isn't good to keep around.
In newer cars, it'll trip a CEL because of that uncontrolled vacuum leak.
