If your luck is like mine (that is, bad), then it is the compressor that has siezed, taking out not only the compressor clutch but also the filter/dryer and expansion valve. I was about 2 hours from my mechanic when mine siezed. I didn't do anything other than shut off the A/C system and pour a lot of water on the A/C clutch to cool it down. My serpentine belt was practically new, which helps explain how it survived the abuse. It survived, but having been smoked by the seized compressor the serpentine belt was no longer trustworthy. I replaced it, and recommend you replace yours when you replace the compressor. My guess is you will be able to drive to your mechanic, but I could be wrong. Good luck. I hope your A/C system isn't as trashed as mine was.
