95CSE. I spent yesterday afternoon doing a similar job. My dash lights have been intermittent for some time. If I press the lower dash fascia (lower left near the dimmer switch), the dash lights would usually go one, but not necessarily stay on. I had some time so I delved into it yesterday. I took out the dimmer switch and tried the contact cleaner trick. No difference. I then dissassembled the dimmers witch and found a bad solder joint on one of the caps. Try as I may, I was not able to successfully resolder. I probably couldn't get the board hot enough to reflow the solder. There is a FET cover nearby on the board that is sinking heat away so that didn't help. Since this is a safety issue (no dash lights at night), I'll spend the $85 for a new one at eEuroparts. I tried ebay and the best I could find was a used one with shipping for approx. $50. It's not worth it to me for the extra $ to take a risk on a used part.
Just a note, all my non-dash lights work with the dimmer switch pulled out.
