Usually the CPS will exhibit its moody tendencies when all is warm and return to normal when cooled down again.
Before you dive in to that repair however, first check your plugs. If they're out of gap they can look like lots of other expensive things, and can indeed prevent the car from starting.
But if the plugs check out, then I'd say the CPS is almost certainly the issue.
