Pulled passenger side axle recently to replace CV boot. Had to whale on it, with nut reversed and threaded almost all the way on, till it started out, and it still came hard till nearly all the way throught.
When it came out I spotted plastic-like pieces of busted up Loctite as the rounded shoulder of the CV joint came into view, sitting there. It appeared the thing had been dosed up good with loctite when assembled, lots of it had been squeezed out onto the end of the CV joint and filled the space between that and hub.
I can't imagine Saab using this here and figured at 190,000 that some prior owner's mechanic had done it up brown. Does anyone know if this could be factory practice?
I trusted to Saab's pretty snug fitting splines and 225 foot pounds of torque on the hub nut to hold it, on reassembly.
