A bit late now, but start with tying the thin wire from the alternator to ground - right at the alternator. If the light comes on, you know most everything from there back to the battery, including the light, is OK.
I'm assuming (1) this used to work fine, and (2) the bulb hasn't been changed. The BATTERY light isn't just any bulb, but a particular wattage (see manual). The wrong bulb, and things won't work right.
Wait for the snow to stop, and try the trick with the wire right at the alternator. If it points you back to the cluster, you may need to do more than just look - you can do some voltage measurements. A connector that is disconnected is obvious but a bad connection can look just fine to the naked eye.
