Charging issue on a 95 CSE turbo

After finally removing my alternator I took it and my spare to Autozone and got them tested. They both tested good. I put my spare into the car and put everything back together. I have the exact same issue so I doubt if it is an alternator problem. Here is my issue: If I start the car and let it idle it will not charge. If I rev the engine once or twice it will start charging and will be fine until I shut it off. My question is this: I notice that my little battery does not illuminate when I turn the key to the on position. I also know that this is critical on a 900 that the alternator will not charge if the light does not come on. Am I exciting the alternator by revving the engine? I did some work on my instrument panel a while back and may have forgotten a connector. Does this make sense to anyone? I just thought I would ask before I pull the dash.
