Thanks guys for all the prompt and good advice!
The transmission mechanic, and some other posts on this site said that the bracket went from the engine over to stabalize the transmission, or to hold the axle tube to the transmission. That was wrong, at least for my '96 9k.
Yesterday, worried that I might be destroying something with the bracket off, and because of all the new vibration after the transmission rebuild, I hustled to a Saab only indy and also to the Saab parts counter for a diagram.
It turns out to be the bracket that bolts to the top of the catalytic converter to hold it up on my '96 9k, not to the transmission as was first told to me. The Saab Indy said it is not essential and that the regular exhaust hangar with the crossbar and two rubber donuts behind the cat converter is better. I'll have to rig one up since my '96 didn't come with one but it does have the two hook mounting points on the underside of the body.
TIP from the indy- The '96 has the bracket that bolts to the cat. converter and not the regular old style hangar. But the old style hangar with crossbar and two rubber donuts is more reliable, though more expensive for Saab to make. Indy said vibration can cause the bolt mounting point on the top of the cat. converter to pull out and leave a hole in the cat. converter = $$ to replace the converter.

I still have a strong new vibration after the transmission rebuild. It is all the time but strongest when stopped and in 'D'. My guess is that the transmission mount was destroyed when the tranny was put back in.
I am going to try to rebuild the mount. Any thoughts on how to rebuild the transmission mount and how difficult it will be?
Thanks for all the good and prompt input. Hope the above info. helps.
