Update on the start/not start situation
Good afternoon! And thanks for all the info so far.
I had the same problem yesterday, with the car starting and then not starting later in the day. They seemed to think it might be the starter motor, but now are testing this before going to the expense of doing all the work (the starter motor being difficult to remove according to the garage as it is right under where the hood meets the car, so to speak).
The garage has attached a connection to part of the starter system, that has a bulb on it. This is so when I turn the key to start the car, the light will come on and then go off.
What they want me to do is to see what the light does, if the car does not start and makes this faint whining sound.
One of the mechanics is still convinced that it has something to do with the security system of the car, but not sure then why it would sometimes start and other times now. He suggested that I put the car into neutral and try starting it yesterday, which made no difference.
They have also cleaned some connections, so all I can do is see what happens now. Hope it does not do this non-starting bit like it did last night, when it is -20f.
Mary
