I had the ugliest shift knob in history on the '94 Aero I bought. The spongy rubber part came off easily leaving the white plastic piece underneath that attaches to the shaft. It wouldn't budge until I heated it up with a hair dryer, and then it came off pretty easily.
I first bought one on-line through a Saab dealer, but it was more than 50 bucks and didn't look like the original. I didn't like it so I returned it (and was charged a restocking fee - so be careful).
Next I bought a wood one from an auction. I think it was OEM, but it doesn't match the wood of the dash/console lid at all, and honestly it feel almost like it could be plastic. It won't stay on just by press fit - it needs glue.
I've seen some different woodies go by on other auctions that instead of having the shift pattern had an emblem in them. They look much nicer, but the condition of the ones I've seen was not very good. I don't think they were supplied beyond about '92 or so.
